PROFESSIONAL WOMEN IN ADVOCACY

About the Professional Women in Advocacy Conference

Mission

Professional Women in Advocacy (PWIA) believes that when women are involved at the highest levels of policy making, everyone benefits. Therefore, it is imperative to give women advocates the tools and information they need to competently and confidently represent their organization or cause. This conference strives to connect women in our field and promote excellence in their work. Participants will leave educated, inspired, and carrying a tool kit for achieving immediate results.

History

What to Expect

The PWIA conference was founded in 2013 because there was no other conference specifically for women advocates that was affordably priced and catered to non-profit advocates as well as corporate and association practitioners. The first conference was held in 2013 at the Liaison Hotel on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. and had 150 attendees. The second conference was at the Washington Hilton and had 200 attendees. By the third year the conference grew again and moved to the Washington Marriott at Metro Center where it is currently hosted and has close to 300 attendees.

What to Expect

The PWIA conference brings together women working in all aspects of government relations and public affairs including political engagement, lobbying, communications, fundraising, law, campaigns and activism. Organizers strive to create a comfortable and open learning environment that is collaborative and fun. We cover important topics facing our industry as well as how-to lessons to improve effectiveness on the job. Our three tracks are: Advocacy and Outreach, Federal, State and Local Government Relations and Professional Development and Coaching.
